About This Anchorage
The outer section of Puck Bay (Zatoka Pucka) lies between the Hel Peninsula and the Polish coast, forming a natural inland sea. The bay is one of Poland's most important sailing and windsurfing areas — the Hel Peninsula's western shore sees consistent wind while the bay provides sheltered flat water. The town of Puck has medieval origins and a small historic centre. The bay's ecology is exceptional — it is one of the most important spawning grounds for cod in the Baltic and supports significant populations of seabirds and seals. The water is very shallow throughout the inner bay (average 3–5m) making it unsuitable for keelboats with more than 1.5m draught. Windsurfers and kitesurfers dominate the bay in summer.

Hazards
- !Very shallow bay — inner bay only suitable for draught <1.5m; check chart carefully
- !Baltic water level fluctuations can reduce effective depth by 0.5–0.7m in E winds
- !Windsurfers and kitesurfers — active in strong wind conditions; watch for collisions
- !SW to W fetch can create short steep chop in the bay
- !Fishing nets — local fishermen operate in the bay; look for net marker buoys
Skipper's Tips
- →Outer Puck Bay is excellent for keelboats with draught up to 1.8m; do not attempt inner bay
- →Best kitesurfing and windsurfing in Poland — the bay's consistent W-SW winds are legendary
- →Puck town is worth a visit — small medieval church and harbour square
- →Check Baltic water level forecast before anchoring — E winds can lower the bay significantly
- →Use depth sounder constantly on approach — charted depths may differ from actual in this dynamic environment
