Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

50m

50m is ample in 2–3m on mud/sand in this small bay. Very limited swinging room — check neighbour clearance carefully. In strong W/SW winds, shorten scope and monitor; the western exposure creates short chop that can affect anchor set. This is a calm-weather anchorage for those seeking solitude over all-weather protection.

About This Anchorage

Vendelsö is a small island within the Kungsbacka Fjord system — a quiet, less-visited alternative to the busier Onsala anchorage 3nm to the east. The island sits in a sheltered position that makes it a natural stop for boats exploring the fjord or transiting between the Gothenburg archipelago and the coast south to Varberg. The anchorage is largely undeveloped — Allemansrätten allows landing and walking the island, which has low granite outcrops, wind-bent pines, and views over the inner fjord. A good stop for those wanting a quiet night in natural surroundings rather than a marina environment.

Skipper's Tips

  • Move to Onsala (3nm E) for the evening if any west or south swell forecast

Best Months & Season

June, July, August

Summer-only anchorage (June–August). No reason to stay outside fine-weather conditions — the western exposure makes it uncomfortable in winds above 15 knots from W/SW. Useful as a lunch stop or early-season stop when Onsala becomes crowded.
