65m on sand/rock in 3–5m. Rock bottom — anchor buoy is non-negotiable. Fair-weather anchorage only — Landsort's open Baltic position means this is a waypoint and overnight in settled conditions, never a refuge. Monitor Baltic forecasts closely.

About This Anchorage

Landsort (official name Öja) is the southernmost inhabited island of the Stockholm Archipelago and one of Sweden's most dramatic lighthouse outposts. The lighthouse was established in 1669 — making it one of the oldest in Sweden — and the island has been a maritime waypoint for centuries. The lighthouse community of Öja (reachable only by boat) has a small permanent winter population and a summer cafe. Landsort marks the boundary between the sheltered skerry world and the open Baltic — a psychological and physical threshold for sailors heading north from the south or south from Stockholm. The anchorage is exposed but the setting is extraordinary: bare rock, old pilot station buildings, and the vast Baltic stretching away in all directions.

Skipper's Tips

  • Visit the lighthouse museum — the 1669 lighthouse is one of Sweden's oldest and best preserved
  • Landsort is the classic 'last night' stop before a Baltic offshore passage south
  • Only anchor here with a settled W or NW forecast for at least 24 hours
  • The island's pilot station is one of the last active traditional pilot posting stations in Sweden
  • Excellent fishing grounds off the south end — cod and flounder in the open Baltic approach
