Anchorages on Tobago's Atlantic Coast
Speyside's manta rays, wild rainforest-backed bays, and some of the Caribbean's least-visited anchorages — Tobago's windward Atlantic coast is for experienced sailors seeking solitude south of the hurricane belt.
Atlantic Windward Coast — Exposed Conditions
Tobago's Atlantic coast faces the full fetch of the North Atlantic Trade Wind swell. Anchorages are generally only comfortable in settled NE weather — swell wraps around headlands and can make anchorages untenable in strong NE winds. Speyside Bay is protected by Goat Island and Little Tobago in light NE conditions. Little Tobago is a bird sanctuary — no landing without a licensed guide. Leatherback turtles nest on Atlantic beaches March–August — no lights after dark on beaches.
