Tersane Adası Anchorage Guide

Also known as: Boatyard Island, Tersane Island, Tersane Creek

Tersane Adası — Boatyard Island — takes its name from the Ottoman-era tersane (shipyard) that operated here for centuries, built into the island's sheltered northwest creek. The ruins of stone vaulted boathouses still stand at the shoreline, and the creek provides all-round shelter that made it a natural choice for winter lay-up by the charter fleet for decades. Today, the Tersane Creek restaurant operates a wooden jetty with laid moorings for 10–15 boats, offering water and a shaded dining terrace among the pine trees. The 2026 smart buoy system operates here; laid moorings from the restaurant are available alongside the official buoy system. A short dinghy trip reaches the ancient ruins.

Setting Your Anchor

The bottom at Tersane Adası is primarily mud and sand with reliable holding when properly set. Use the following approach:

  1. Approach slowly and check your depth sounder on the way in. At 510m, deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (70m chain at 10m depth).
  2. Drop into the wind or current and pay out chain steadily as the boat drifts back — do not allow chain to pile on the anchor.
  3. Set firmly in reverse. Apply moderate throttle astern for 30–60 seconds. The chain should tighten without the boat moving backwards.
  4. Take a GPS bearing. Note your position once set and compare to the scope calculator to confirm you have adequate chain for the depth.

Recommended anchor types for this bottom: Rocna, Mantus, CQR. See our guide to anchor types by bottom for detailed comparisons.

A note on this guide: The data in this guide has been researched from multiple sailing sources and is provided in good faith. Anchorage conditions — including depth, holding, and local regulations — can change. Before visiting, always check current weather forecasts, NAVTEX and VHF weather bulletins, and consult your up-to-date charts. The Fethiye-Göcek SEPA mooring rules and fees change annually — verify current requirements via the TÜÇA app and ÇEYAŞ authority before departure. Use a GPS anchor alarm and never rely solely on a guide for navigational decisions.
