Wall Bay Anchorage Guide

Also known as: Duvar Koyu, Manastır Koyu, Lycian Wall Bay

Wall Bay — known in Turkish as Duvar Koyu or Manastır Koyu — takes its name from the dramatic Lycian stone wall that runs along the shoreline, a relic of a fortified ancient settlement that once guarded this fjord-like inlet in Skopea Limani. The bay has a narrow entrance that opens into a generous anchorage of 8–15m over mud and sand, with the pine-clad hillsides rising steeply on both sides. The Wall Bay Restaurant occupies the eastern shore, operating a wooden jetty for 36 yachts with water and serving its celebrated wood-fired bread to visiting sailors. Wind pattern is consistent: a NW breeze builds each morning around 10:00 and dies at sunset. Arrive early, take a stern line to the orange bollards, and the bay is reliably calm overnight.

80m

Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

At 10m depth: 7:1 scope = 70m chain. Recommend 80m to buffer for the daily NW breeze that builds from 10:00. If nighttime downdrafts are expected, tighten the stern line to minimise swing.

The Anchorage

Fjord-like bay with Lycian wall ruins on shore. 8–15m over mud/sand. Restaurant wooden jetty for 36 yachts. NW wind (3–4 Beaufort) builds from ~10:00 daily, dies at sunset. Nighttime downdrafts possible. Take stern line to orange bollards ashore.

Setting Your Anchor

The bottom at Wall Bay is primarily mud and sand with reliable holding when properly set. Use the following approach:

  1. Approach slowly and check your depth sounder on the way in. At 815m, deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (105m chain at 15m depth).
  2. Drop into the wind or current and pay out chain steadily as the boat drifts back — do not allow chain to pile on the anchor.
  3. Set firmly in reverse. Apply moderate throttle astern for 30–60 seconds. The chain should tighten without the boat moving backwards.
  4. Take a GPS bearing. Note your position once set and compare to the scope calculator to confirm you have adequate chain for the depth.

Recommended anchor types for this bottom: Rocna, Mantus, Delta. See our guide to anchor types by bottom for detailed comparisons.

Overnight Anchoring & Anchor Alarm

Overnight stays at Wall Bay are feasible but require monitoring. The anchorage is exposed to NW and N winds.

Set your GPS anchor alarm to 80m radius before going below for the night. At 10m depth: 7:1 scope = 70m chain. Recommend 80m to buffer for the daily NW breeze that builds from 10:00. If nighttime downdrafts are expected, tighten the stern line to minimise swing.

A scenic and historical bay that rewards the extra distance from Göcek. The daily NW breeze pattern is predictable — it dies at sunset, leaving calm overnight conditions. The restaurant's wood-fired bread is famous among regular Skopea visitors.

Navigation Hazards

  • NW wind builds daily from ~10:00, Force 3–4; plan sailing to arrive before 09:30
  • Nighttime downdrafts possible — stern line ashore reduces swing significantly
  • Small islets off the headlands — clear carefully on approach
  • 1m shallow area on approach — check chart carefully
  • SEPA: mandatory buoy reservation; no discharging

Rules & Regulations

  • Permit: Not required

A note on this guide: The data in this guide has been researched from multiple sailing sources and is provided in good faith. Anchorage conditions — including depth, holding, and local regulations — can change. Before visiting, always check current weather forecasts, NAVTEX and VHF weather bulletins, and consult your up-to-date charts. The Fethiye-Göcek SEPA mooring rules and fees change annually — verify current requirements via the TÜÇA app and ÇEYAŞ authority before departure. Use a GPS anchor alarm and never rely solely on a guide for navigational decisions.
