Anchorages in St. John & Virgin Islands National Park
Two-thirds of St. John is protected Virgin Islands National Park — Trunk Bay (NPS Underwater Snorkel Trail), Cinnamon Bay (NPS campground), Cruz Bay (customs and ferry hub), and Coral Bay's Hurricane Hole (finest storm refuge in the USVI). NPS mooring balls $26/night in designated park bays.
NPS mooring balls mandatory in park bays — no anchoring on coral
Virgin Islands National Park covers approximately 2/3 of St. John. NPS mooring balls ($26/night) are mandatory in Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, and Francis Bay — NO ANCHORING in these designated park bays. In all other USVI and NPS waters, anchor ONLY in sand (no coral or seagrass). NPS rangers actively patrol and enforce. CBP ROAM clearance is mandatory at Cruz Bay if arriving from BVI or any foreign port. Day-use fee $5/person at managed NPS beaches.
