About This Anchorage
Cape Emine is one of the most significant navigation landmarks on the western Black Sea — the exact point where the Balkan Mountain Range (Stara Planina), which has run across the entire width of Bulgaria, meets the sea. The mountains arrive at the coast as dramatic cliffs dropping vertically into deep water, the final assertion of a geological barrier that has defined Bulgarian geography for millennia. For sailors, Emine is a major passage waypoint — rounding the cape requires careful planning as the headland accelerates winds and creates confused seas. The anchorage in the bay south of the cape offers a brief shelter from northwesterly conditions, with extraordinary views up to the forested mountain ridges above. The Emine Lighthouse (1888) guides coastal traffic around the cape. Due to wind acceleration and limited protection, this is a waypoint stop rather than a cruising destination.
