About This Anchorage

Sinemorets is the last Bulgarian village before Turkey — a tiny community at the edge of the Strandzha Nature Park that has, by some miracle, remained genuine and uncommercialised despite growing visitor numbers. The village name means 'blue sea' in Bulgarian, and the colour of the Black Sea water here — deep cobalt in settled conditions — justifies it. Sinemorets is framed by two wild beaches, Veleka to the north and Butamyata to the south, both undeveloped and beautiful. The village itself has a handful of traditional Bulgarian stone houses, a small café, a church, and a growing number of guesthouses catering to those seeking the authentic last village at the edge of wild Bulgaria. For sailors, Sinemorets represents the endpoint of a Bulgarian coast passage — beyond here lies only the border river and Turkey. Anchoring in the bay with the village above and the Strandzha forest rising behind is an experience of extraordinary remoteness and beauty.
