About This Anchorage

The Étang de Thau is the largest coastal lagoon in France — 20km long, protected from the Gulf of Lion by a narrow strip of sand, and home to France's most famous oyster and mussel farming industry (the Bouzigues oysters are celebrated throughout France). The lagoon offers outstanding shelter from the Tramontane and excellent holding. Sète, at the E end, is the gateway to the Canal du Midi (Atlantic passage) and one of the most authentic fishing ports on the Languedoc coast. The lagoon towns (Mèze, Marseillan, Bouzigues) are worth exploring by dinghy.
