Anchorages — Amalfi Coast & Campania

The Gulf of Naples and UNESCO Amalfi Coast combine dramatic volcanic islands with intense summer ferry traffic. Capri, Ischia, and Procida offer spectacular sailing but require careful AMP awareness. Punta Campanella AMP Zone C permits day anchoring at Marina di Crapolla (08:00–20:00 only). Scirocco from the SE creates the primary overnight swell hazard.

Punta Campanella AMP — Zone C Day Anchoring Rules

The Punta Campanella AMP Zone C allows anchoring between 08:00–20:00 only. After 20:00, vessels must use designated mooring buoys (fee applies) or depart the zone. Anchoring within 100m of a beach or 50m of Posidonia meadows is prohibited. The AMP covers the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula and its Capri-facing waters. Contact: puntacampanella.org, VHF Ch 16. Marina di Crapolla (ancient Roman fish farm site) is one of Italy's most beautiful restricted coves — only accessible by sea.

Ferry Traffic — High Speed Vessels

High-speed hydrofoils and ferries connect Naples, Capri, Ischia, Procida, and Positano year-round. In summer, the frequency exceeds one departure every 10 minutes from Naples. Always anchor clear of the ferry lane — prop wash from aliscafi (hydrofoils) at 30+ knots creates a dangerous swell in anchorages. Never anchor in the main harbour approaches.
