Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

60m

60m in the semi-enclosed Corricella bay in 2–4m. Limited swing room due to local fishing boat moorings — anchor in the clear water to the S of the harbour with adequate distance from the moored boats. If Libeccio (SW) builds above F4, the bay becomes exposed and uncomfortable.

About This Anchorage

Procida is the smallest and least-developed of the three Gulf of Naples islands, and arguably the most authentic — the colourful fishermen's houses of Cala Corricella tumbling down to the harbour are one of Italy's most photographed scenes. The island was Italy's 2022 Cultural Capital of the Year, bringing new visitors but not yet the mass tourism of Capri. Procida's narrow lanes, local markets, and unspoiled fishing culture contrast sharply with the sophistication of Capri and Ischia. Cala Corricella is a perfect overnight anchorage in settled summer conditions — the evening light on the harbour buildings is magical.

Permit details
No AMP permit. Standard Italian maritime rules. Capitaneria di Porto Procida Ch 16.

Restrictions: No anchoring on Posidonia. Maintain clear passage through the harbour for local fishing boats. Do not anchor in the main harbour channel. Speed limit 5 kn in harbour area.

Hazards

  • !S/SW exposure: Any Libeccio or Scirocco wind reaches into the bay from the south — in such conditions, the anchorage is choppy and departure to Ischia is recommended
  • !Fishing boat traffic: Corricella is a working fishing port — early morning (04:00–06:00) can be busy with departing fishing vessels; ensure your anchor chain does not cross anyone else's gear
  • !Shallow approach: Some areas of the inner harbour are very shallow (1–1.5m) — approach with depth sounder running; the sandy bottom extends evenly but there are patches of rock
  • !2022 Cultural Capital after-effect: Procida now receives many more visitors than before — in July–August the anchorage can be crowded; arrive before noon

Skipper's Tips

  • The film 'Il Postino' (1994, one of the greatest Italian films) was set on Procida — the island's atmosphere has changed little since; walk the lanes of Terra Murata (the hilltop castle village) for the best perspective
  • Procida lemon (limone di Procida) is a UNESCO-protected variety — the huge, fragrant lemons are available from market stalls and make excellent limoncello; buy a bottle to take aboard
  • The La Chiaiolella bay on the SW tip of the island offers a different anchorage (more SW shelter but less scenic)
  • Ferry service from Naples (40 minutes) and Ischia makes provisioning runs easy — Procida's small shops are adequate but Naples' Pignasecca market is superior

Facilities

Water Fuel Restaurant Provisions WiFi

Excellent traditional restaurants in Corricella — try fresh saraghina (small sardine-type fish) fried, and local seafood pasta. Significantly cheaper than Capri or Positano.

Nearest provisions: Procida village (Marina Grande) (0.5nm)

Best Months & Season

May, June, September, October

Year-round accessible as a port. Best sailing May–October. The island is less crowded than Capri and Ischia, making it an excellent escape from the peak season chaos on the larger islands.
