About This Anchorage

Anse à Boeuf is a small, quiet bay on the eastern coast of the Trois-Îlets peninsula — tucked away from the main charter traffic of Anse Mitan and Point du Bout, yet close enough to access their facilities by dinghy. The bay is modest in scale, with a sandy bottom providing reliable holding and good protection from the dominant NE trade winds. The surrounding coast here is less developed than the main Trois-Îlets tourist strip, with a more residential character that appeals to cruisers seeking a quieter base. The village of Trois-Îlets — with its pottery museum, golf course, and the childhood home of Empress Joséphine (consort of Napoléon Bonaparte, born here in 1763) — is easily accessible by dinghy. The anchorage serves well as an overflow from the busy Anse Mitan when peak season crowds make that bay uncomfortably full.

  • !Afternoon squalls can generate swell from the SW — same exposure as other Trois-Îlets anchorages

Skipper's Tips

  • Use Anse à Boeuf as a quieter overflow from Anse Mitan when the main anchorage is crowded in peak season
  • Dinghy into Trois-Îlets village to visit the Maison de la Canne (sugarcane museum) and the birthplace of Empress Joséphine — genuinely interesting colonial history
  • The golf course behind the village is one of the best in the French Caribbean — a shore excursion option for golf-playing crew
  • Access to ferry service to Fort-de-France via a short dinghy ride to the Anse Mitan pontoon
  • Quieter nights than Anse Mitan — fewer charter boats and minimal ferry traffic directly overhead
