About This Anchorage

Vama Veche ('Old Customs') sits at the very southern tip of Romania's Black Sea coast, immediately north of the Bulgarian border. The name refers to the old Ottoman customs post that once stood here on the border. Since the 1960s, Vama Veche has become famous as Romania's most countercultural beach destination — a place of artistic freedom, all-night beach parties, and a legendary bohemian atmosphere that survived and thrived after communism. The village's free-spirited reputation makes it unlike any other place on the Romanian coast. For visiting sailors, the open roadstead provides a scenic stop in calm conditions — the sandy beach, dramatic clifftops, and the wild atmosphere of the village are immediately appealing. The Bulgarian border is just 1km south; yachts intending to cross must have completed entry formalities at an official Bulgarian port of entry.
