About This Anchorage
The outer bay at the mouth of the Sfântu Gheorghe Danube arm marks the meeting point of the Danube and the Black Sea at its southernmost point — a landscape of extraordinary beauty and ecological significance. The wild beach stretching north and south of the channel mouth is one of the most untouched stretches of coastline in Europe: fine sand, backed by low dunes and the vast reed plain of the delta, with no permanent human habitation for kilometres in either direction. White and Dalmatian pelicans, which nest in the delta interior, regularly appear along this coast; dolphins are common in the outer bay. The Danube sediment plume, visible as a greenish-brown stain in the otherwise blue-green Black Sea, extends seaward from the channel mouth and can be tracked from anchorage. This is the kind of anchorage that defines a voyage — remote, wild, and genuinely unforgettable.
