Anchorages in the Danube Delta
Danube Delta — UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — Navigation Permits Mandatory
The entire Danube Delta (5,800 km²) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. Navigation permits are MANDATORY for all vessels — obtain from the ARBDD office in Tulcea before entering the delta. Speed limits: 8 km/h in main channels, lower in secondary channels — strictly enforced with significant fines. Bird colony areas are seasonally closed April–July (Dalmatian pelican, cormorant, heron breeding). Many secondary channels are draft-limited (typically 0.8–1.5m). Sulina Channel is the only arm deepened for commercial navigation (7m project depth). Chilia Channel: the centre of the channel is the Romanian-Ukrainian international border — remain on Romanian (south) side.
