Marina Izola Visitors Berths Anchorage Guide
Also known as: Marina Izola, Izola Marina, Marina Izola pontoon
Marina Izola — the largest marina by berth count in Slovenia with 700+ berths for boats up to 30m and 4.5m draft (the deepest berths in Slovenian waters). Two large breakwaters provide protection from all wind directions. A 50-tonne travel lift and winter hard-standing for 50 yachts. The marina guarantees 24-hour landing assistance. The old fishing town of Izola immediately behind the marina has a relaxed, lived-in character distinct from tourist-heavy Piran — good local restaurants, a small beach, and the old harbour with traditional fishing boats still active.

Setting Your Anchor
The bottom at Marina Izola Visitors Berths is primarily sand and mud with reliable holding when properly set.
- Contact Marina Izola on VHF Ch 16 before arrival — 24-hour landing assistance is guaranteed. Max draft 4.5m. Confirm berth availability and depth for your keel.
- Anchor in 2–4.5m, adding 1–1.5m to the charted depth to account for the 1m+ Northern Adriatic tidal range.
- Deploy at least 5:1 scope (23m chain at 4.5m depth) — tidal movement increases rode workload compared to Mediterranean anchorages.
- Set firmly in reverse — 30–60 seconds at moderate throttle. Use the scope calculator to confirm adequate chain.
Recommended anchor types: Rocna, Mantus, Spade.
Overnight Anchoring & Anchor Alarm
