About This Anchorage

Englishman's Bay is consistently cited as one of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the entire Caribbean — a perfect crescent of fine white sand enclosed by jungle-clad headlands, backed by the ancient Main Ridge rainforest, with not a building in sight. The bay is north-facing on Tobago's Caribbean coast — protected from the east but with some north swell exposure. No facilities, no development, no commercial activity. Just a pristine beach, warm clear water, and the sounds of the Main Ridge forest. A day stop or overnight in calm conditions on passage along Tobago's north coast toward Man-O-War Bay and Charlotteville. One of the rarest things in the Caribbean — a beautiful beach with no crowd and no commercial presence.

Hazards

  • !No facilities — completely self-sufficient; carry full provisions and safety equipment

  • !Remote — no VHF monitoring ashore; limited mobile coverage
  • !Narrow entrance headlands can create confused sea in swell — approach carefully

Skipper's Tips

  • Englishman's Bay is one of the Caribbean's great undiscovered treasures — anchor here and have a perfect beach entirely to yourself
  • The hike up from the beach into the Main Ridge rainforest starts from the western end of the bay
  • Carry fresh water and all provisions — there is nothing here and that is precisely the point
  • Check swell and wind forecasts carefully before committing to an overnight stay — the remoteness makes a quick exit difficult in bad weather
