Limanağzı Anchorage Guide
Also known as: Liman Agzi, Limanağzı Koyu, Port Mouth Bay
Limanağzı is a dramatic deep-water fjord on the approaches to Kaş, with steep limestone cliffs rising directly from the water. The fjord-like geometry provides good shelter from northerly and westerly winds, but anchoring is challenging due to the great depth. Sailors approaching Kaş from the west sometimes use this bay as a temporary stop. The water clarity is exceptional and the scenery — sheer limestone cliffs, pine trees, turquoise water — is quintessential Lycian coast.

Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius
60m in the inner shallower section. Limanağzı is a steep-sided fjord with very deep water — anchoring requires care to find suitable ground of 10–20m. The fjord geometry provides good protection from the north, but the southern opening is exposed. Monitor carefully overnight.

Deep-water fjord entry on the Kaş approaches. Very deep — anchoring difficult in the main channel. Head toward the inner section for shallower ground (10–15m). Rock and sand bottom; holding is fair at best. Best used as a temporary stop.
Setting Your Anchor
The bottom at Limanağzı is primarily rock and sand with variable holding that requires extra attention. Use the following approach:
- Approach slowly and check your depth sounder on the way in. At 10–30m, deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (210m chain at 30m depth).
- Drop into the wind or current and pay out chain steadily as the boat drifts back — do not allow chain to pile on the anchor.
- Set firmly in reverse. Apply moderate throttle astern for 30–60 seconds. The chain should tighten without the boat moving backwards.
- Snorkel to verify. Given the fair holding here, it is strongly recommended to snorkel down and visually confirm the anchor is buried in rock, not resting on sand.
Recommended anchor types for this bottom: Rocna, Mantus. See our guide to anchor types by bottom for detailed comparisons.
Overnight Anchoring & Anchor Alarm
Overnight stays at Limanağzı are feasible but require monitoring. The anchorage is exposed to S winds.

May–October as a daytime stop. Overnight only in perfectly settled conditions due to depth and exposure challenges. The scenery is best appreciated from the anchorage on a calm summer afternoon.
Navigation Hazards
- Very deep water in the main fjord section (20–40m) — anchor only in the inner end where depths reduce to 10–15m
- Rock bottom makes holding unreliable — snorkel to verify anchor placement
- Southern opening provides some S/SW exposure — not a comfortable all-weather anchorage
- Limited swinging room due to fjord walls — stern line to the cliff or rocks is the standard approach
Rules & Regulations
- Permit: Not required
- Anchoring fee: Free
- Restrictions: Deep water in the main channel — anchor only in the inner section where depths are 10–20m. Stern line to rocks ashore is strongly recommended.

Skipper's Tips
- Take a stern line ashore to the limestone cliff — standard practice in this type of fjord anchorage
- Use as a lunchtime stop on the Kaş approaches rather than an overnight destination
- The water clarity under the cliff walls is exceptional — excellent snorkelling in 0–15m
- For overnight, continue to Kaş harbour or anchor at Çukurbağ Peninsula (more comfortable)
A note on this guide: The data in this guide has been researched from multiple sailing sources and is provided in good faith. Anchorage conditions — including depth, holding, and local regulations — can change. Before visiting, always check current weather forecasts, NAVTEX and VHF weather bulletins, and consult your up-to-date charts. Use a GPS anchor alarm and never rely solely on a guide for navigational decisions.
