Best Anchorages Around Marmaris

Marmaris Bay and the surrounding Bozburun Peninsula coves offer everything from busy resort bays to completely wild, roadless inlets. These 10 anchorages have been verified for depth, bottom type, and wind protection — each with a tailored anchor alarm radius recommendation.

About the Marmaris Region

Prevailing Wind

Meltemi from the NW/N, typically 10:00–18:00 from June to September, 15–25 knots (occasionally 30+). The Bozburun Peninsula coves to the south are significantly more sheltered than Marmaris Bay itself.

Best Season

May–June and September–October for settled conditions and fewer charter boats. July–August is peak season — busy bays, loud resorts, and daily meltemi. The remote southern anchorages (Bördübet, Serçe Limanı) stay quiet all season.

Lodos Warning

The SW Lodos storm wind is Marmaris Bay's most dangerous weather event. The Yalancı Boğaz strait south of Adaköy can funnel Lodos squalls to 50+ knots with very little warning. Move to a sheltered bay before SW weather arrives.

Base Port

Netsel Marina (Marmaris) is the main charter base. Adaköy Marina is 3nm west. Bozburun (Hisarönü region) is the Port of Entry for Greek island crossings (Symi 9nm).

Lodos Warning — Marmaris Bay

The SW Lodos storm wind is the most dangerous weather event in the Marmaris region. The Yalancı Boğaz strait (the channel between Nimara Peninsula and the mainland south of Adaköy) acts as a funnel for Lodos, accelerating squalls to 50+ knots with very little warning. Lodos events occur most frequently in spring (April–May) and autumn (October–November), but can strike in summer too. If Lodos is forecast: move from the outer Marmaris Bay anchorages (Adaköy, İçmeler) to Bördübet, Serçe Limanı, or Marmaris Marina before conditions deteriorate. Never stay in an exposed bay when SW is in the forecast.
