Anchorages in Tallinn Bay
Tallinn Bay — heavy ferry traffic and Gulf of Finland conditions
Tallinn Bay carries 15+ large ferries daily to Helsinki, Stockholm, and other Baltic ports. Maintain AIS and radar watch at all times. The Gulf of Finland builds steep, short-period seas in strong W or E winds — conditions can deteriorate quickly. Pirita Marina (VHF Ch 12) is the recommended overnight base; the Old Town roadstead is best used as a day anchorage. On Naissaar Island: stay strictly on marked paths — the former Soviet mine-laying base has not been fully cleared of historical ordnance.
