About This Anchorage

Jægerspris Nor is one of the most peaceful anchorages in the entire Copenhagen sailing area — a small, completely enclosed bay surrounded by the ancient royal forest of Jægerspris. The Jægerspris Slot (royal castle, 15th century) stands among the trees overlooking the bay. The bay is accessed through the shallow Isefjord channel (minimum 2.0m at chart datum) — draught limit of 2.0m applies. Inside, thick mud provides excellent holding and the water is completely calm regardless of outside conditions. Eelgrass rings the bay edges — anchor strictly in the central muddy pool. The surrounding forest is open to the public; walking trails lead through ancient beech and oak woodland to the castle.

Skipper's Tips

  • The ultimate storm hole for Copenhagen-area sailors — completely calm regardless of outside weather
  • Jægerspris Slot (royal castle) forest walk takes 2 hours — magnificent ancient trees, deer visible, royal history
  • The nor is remarkably birdrich: white-tailed eagle nests in the forest; kingfisher and grey heron on the bay edge
  • Combine with Roskilde Fjord (10nm south) — the pair make the perfect 2-night inland Zealand sailing trip
  • Bring a mask and check the anchor is on mud not eelgrass before setting — the bay looks clear but eelgrass fringes are deceptive
