Extreme weather & strong tidal streams — experienced North Atlantic sailors only

Streymoy and Tórshavn are in the heart of the Faroe Islands — North Atlantic depressions can intensify from calm to gale-force in under an hour. Spring tidal range is 1.5–2.5m with streams reaching 3–5kt in narrows. Williwaw gusts off steep basalt hillsides can hit 50kt without warning. Tórshavn Marina (DKK 250/night) is the only fully equipped marina in the archipelago — fuel and chandlery are unavailable elsewhere. Use the RAK tide app for all inter-island passage planning. Not recommended for inexperienced offshore sailors.
