Marine Electrical: common questions

How long do marine batteries last?
Three to five years for a flooded or AGM lead-acid house bank that is charged fully and not routinely taken below 50 percent; considerably less if it lives half-charged on a mooring. Lithium banks are rated for ten years or more of cycles. The killer is not age but sulphation from sitting partly discharged, which is why a boat's battery life is decided by its charging, not its brand.
