Gulf of Gabes Tides — Critical Warning
The Gulf of Gabes is the only area in the central Mediterranean with significant tidal range: 0.5–1.5m at spring tides (up to 2.1m near Gabes town). Extensive sandbanks uncover completely at low water. You must always anchor in at least 3–4m at HIGH WATER to ensure adequate depth at low tide. The Kerkennah Islands are accessible only to vessels drawing less than 1.2m. Ghost fishing nets (abandoned gear) are widespread throughout the gulf — avoid dragging anchor through this region to prevent propeller fouling. Check tide tables before every anchorage.
