About This Anchorage

Replot (Finnish: Raippaluoto) is the largest island in the Kvarken Archipelago and the gateway island connected to the mainland by the Replot Bridge (1045m, longest bridge in Finland). The island is a substantial community with farms, villages, and the full character of a Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnian coastal settlement. The bridge connection means Replot has more amenities than the remote outer islands — a village shop, harbour, and access to the mainland for fuel and provisions. The island is the natural base for Kvarken sailing — provision here from Vaasa, then sail out to the more remote islands of the UNESCO site. The harbour is well-positioned for the inner archipelago passages.

Anchoring Rules

Restrictions: Land uplift area — verify depths; Replot Bridge navigation clearance limited (contact harbour for height restrictions); UNESCO World Heritage area surrounds the island.

Hazards

  • !Replot Bridge navigation clearance — check air draft; the bridge limits vessel height
  • !Shallow harbour (3–5m) — limited draft for deeper yachts
  • !Land uplift — verify depths on arrival; approach carefully
  • !Open to west and NW — westerly conditions expose the south bay
  • !Bridge traffic: road bridge carries significant vehicle traffic — noise

Skipper's Tips

  • Replot is the ideal base island for Kvarken — bridge access to mainland means you can resupply by road if needed, then sail out to the remote outer islands
  • The village of Replot is a typical Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnian community — the Lutheran church (18th century) and traditional farmhouses are worth exploring
  • The Replot Bridge gives dramatic views over the inner Kvarken Archipelago from 10m above water — worth cycling or walking (5km from harbour)
  • Provision here for a Kvarken outer island circuit — the remote skerries have no facilities; Replot is your last resupply point
  • The night sky from the Kvarken Archipelago is exceptional — minimal light pollution; late summer nights are dark enough for star observation from August
