Vestfjorden crossing: 60nm exposed water — plan weather window
The Vestfjorden crossing is 60+ nautical miles of exposed open water between mainland Norway and the Lofoten wall. Check forecasts carefully — the sea state can become dangerous in strong NE winds funnelling down the Norwegian coast. Moskenstraumen (the Maelstrom, SW tip of Lofoten) is genuinely dangerous at spring tides — never enter at springs.
