Anchorages in Algarve
Portugal's premier sailing destination — ochre limestone sea caves, Ria Formosa lagoon, and the orca-risk waters off Cabo São Vicente. The Nortada is blocked by Cape St. Vincent, making the south coast significantly calmer.
Orca risk near Cabo São Vicente (Jun–Sep)
Stay in waters deeper than 20m to reduce orca interaction risk. Do not heave-to or drift on the west coast in summer. If approached, disengage autopilot and sail under manual steering only.
