Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

60m

60m for 2–4m on sand/mud. NE exposure is the primary concern at this northern tip of Öland — any northerly or NE wind brings Baltic fetch directly into the anchorage. Reduce scope requirement in SW/S conditions (well sheltered then).

About This Anchorage

Byxelkrok sits at the northern tip of Öland and is strategically positioned as the departure point for the Byxelkrok–Visby ferry across to Gotland — making it an ideal staging post for Baltic passages. The small fishing harbour has a gästhamn and the characteristic flat limestone landscape of northern Öland surrounds it. North Öland's landscape is more open and windswept than the wooded south, with extensive Alvar (limestone grassland) reaching down to the rocky shoreline. The harbour is modest but functional with water and provisions available. The ferry connection makes Byxelkrok an efficient base for crew changes between mainland Sweden, Öland, and Gotland.
