Kumlinge

About This Anchorage

Kumlinge is a central Åland island municipality with better facilities than the more remote outer islands — a shop, restaurant, harbour with services, and regular ferry connections. The island is one of the key waypoints on the outer Åland sailing circuit, positioned roughly halfway between Mariehamn and the eastern outer islands. The village of Kumlinge has a traditional wooden church (14th century, one of the oldest in Åland) and the characteristic red-painted wooden buildings of the archipelago. The harbour area is pleasant for an overnight stop — the restaurant serves simple traditional food and the shop stocks good provisions. A practical and attractive stop on the Åland circuit.

• →The shop here is one of the few provisioning opportunities on the outer Åland circuit — stock up before heading to Sottunga or Kökar
• →The cycling route around Kumlinge island takes about 2 hours on the quiet roads — excellent way to see the island landscape
• →Kumlinge is a good base for exploring the surrounding smaller islands by dinghy — many uninhabited rocks within easy reach
• →The restaurant's smörgåsbord in summer is the best meal between Mariehamn and the outer islands — arrive hungry
