About This Anchorage
Nötö is a mid-archipelago island on the main Turunmaa sailing route between the inner channels and the outer islands. The island sits at a transition zone where the archipelago begins to thin out and the sea becomes more open. The SE cove provides good shelter in northerly and westerly conditions with excellent mud and clay holding. The island has some summer cottages but is largely wild — the pine and birch forest characteristic of the Finnish archipelago, granite outcrops, and occasional glimpses of summer wildlife including sea eagles. A good overnight stop for sailors progressing from Berghamn toward the outer islands.

Skipper's Tips
- →Nötö is a wilderness anchorage — the solitude and natural beauty are the main attractions
- →The mud/clay bottom gives exceptional holding — ideal overnight stop before the passage to Utö or Örö
- →Sea eagle sightings are common in the outer archipelago — keep binoculars ready
- →The brackish water here is clear enough for good swimming — water temperature reaches 20°C+ in July
- →Plan the passage to Utö (10nm SW) for early morning when the Baltic is calm — sea breeze typically builds from SW by midday
