Marsaxlokk is Malta's most famous fishing village — a large bay full of traditional luzzu boats with painted eyes, excellent protection from the prevailing NW Majjistral wind. These 10 verified locations cover the entire southeast Malta coast including the Blue Grotto sea caves, Delimara Point lighthouse, and Marsaskala creek.
Xlokk (Scirocco) Warning — Marsaxlokk Bay Faces SE
Marsaxlokk Bay faces directly southeast — the same direction as the Xlokk (Scirocco) wind for which it is named. The bay provides excellent shelter from the NW Majjistral (the prevailing summer wind) but becomes uncomfortable and potentially dangerous in strong SE conditions. If the Xlokk or Scirocco is forecast, relocate to Grand Harbour (8nm W) which is protected from SE. The Freeport commercial container terminal occupies the east side of the bay — maintain wide clearance from shipping lanes at all times. Monitor VHF Ch 16.
