Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

65m

65m radius for 2–4m on sand. Good fair-weather anchorage with clean sandy bottom. Always monitor weather — the Kattegat W-SW swell arrives at Tylösand with no offshore island protection. Move to Halmstad harbour (4nm) at first sign of deterioration. The sandy bottom gives better holding than gravel but an anchor buoy/trip line is useful for retrieval.

About This Anchorage

Tylösand is Halmstad's famous beach — a beautiful sweep of white sand backed by pine forest and dunes, with the landmark Hotel Tylösand (known for its art collection and spa) on the headland above. Swedish pop legend ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus has a long association with this area. The beach is one of the best on the Halland coast — wide, clean, and with clear water. For sailors, it is a popular summer day-stop on the approach to or departure from Halmstad, with enough depth to anchor comfortably in 2–4m. The area has a resort atmosphere in July–August. The rocky headland at the south end provides limited wind shadow in SW winds but not swell protection.
