About This Anchorage
The Mingė River mouth offers one of the most unique anchorages in the Baltic — the gateway to Mingė village, one of Europe's last inhabited water villages where roads don't exist and every house is accessed only by boat. The river flows through a maze of reed channels and willow-fringed waterways in the Nemunas Delta region before emptying into the southeastern corner of the Curonian Lagoon. Anchoring at the river mouth in 1.5–3.5m over excellent mud holding, sailors can explore upstream by dinghy through a timeless landscape of wooden farmhouses, ancient wooden bridges, and fishermen rowing traditional flat-bottomed boats. The river mouth location provides good shelter from northerly and westerly winds, with reed banks breaking the chop. This is prime birdwatching territory — white-tailed eagles, black storks, corncrakes, and thousands of waterfowl inhabit the delta wetlands. The area is part of the Nemunas Delta Regional Park. A small wooden jetty at the river mouth serves the village. This anchorage rewards adventurous sailors willing to explore far from the tourist trail.
