Anchorages on the Pomeranian Coast
Exposed coast — river entrance bars dangerous in northerly swell
The Pomeranian coast is fully exposed to the open Baltic from the north and north-west. There are no natural deep-water anchorages — all shelter requires entering river mouths (Łeba, Ustka, Darłowo, Kołobrzeg). These entrances cross sandbars that become dangerous in northerly swell above 0.5m. Always call the harbour master on VHF Ch. 16 before approach to confirm current bar depth and conditions. Never attempt entry in breaking waves. Offshore anchoring is fair-weather only — Baltic swell builds rapidly.
