About This Anchorage

The Dziwnów Strait (Cieśnina Dziwnowska) is the eastern passage connecting the protected Kamień Bay and Oder lagoon system with the Baltic Sea, passing through Wolin Island. The strait is an important through-route for boats transiting the protected inner waters of northwest Poland. The current through the strait is driven by Baltic water level differences (not tides) and can run 2–3 kt in strong winds. The inner anchorage south of Wolin Island provides protection from northern winds with Wolin Island as a natural breakwater. Wolin National Park is nearby with its famous bison reserve — one of the few places in Poland where European bison (żubr) can be seen in a semi-wild environment.
