About This Anchorage

Dueodde is the southernmost point of Bornholm — a dramatic, flat sandy headland dominated by the tall white lighthouse (45m, 1900) and backed by Denmark's finest sandy beaches. The 'gun powder sand' of Dueodde is the finest grain in Scandinavia — historically used in hourglasses and recommended by German hourglass manufacturers specifically. The anchorage west of the lighthouse in 3–6m on perfect white sand is beautiful in calm conditions or with a northerly breeze. Open to south across the full Baltic — only viable in settled conditions. The beach extends 4km in each direction from the lighthouse — completely natural, with dune forest behind. The anchorage is accessed from east, staying 400m offshore (minimum 3m). No facilities within walking distance — self-sufficient.

Free

No

Restrictions: Open south coast — leave in any southerly; nature dune area — no camping or fires on beach; lighthouse is an active navigation aid; approach from east (400m offshore minimum).

Hazards

  • !Fully open to south — Baltic swell and southerly wind make this anchorage dangerous; only use in settled N/NE/E conditions
  • !Shallow approach (minimum 3m) — approach from east, 400m offshore; shoaling sand bars shift
  • !No facilities — completely self-sufficient
  • !Lighthouse and carpark visible from anchorage — tourist beach in summer
  • !Rapid deterioration possible — always have an escape plan to Nexø (E, 8nm) or Rønne (W, 15nm)

Skipper's Tips

  • Dueodde is worth the effort in the right conditions — sunrise from the anchorage over the Baltic, Bornholm's finest sand beach, crystal water: a perfect morning
  • The lighthouse is open for tours in summer (09:00–18:00, small fee) — 45m height gives views across to mainland Germany on clear days
  • The sand at Dueodde is genuinely remarkable — collect a small bag (permitted for personal use) — the grain size is uniquely fine
  • Best conditions: N–NE wind, settled anticyclone, arrive in the evening after the tourist buses have left
  • Combine with Nexø (8nm east) and Svaneke (18nm NE) for a south/east coast Bornholm circuit
