Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

80m

80m for the 4–8m depth range. The breakwater gives more shelter than the natural east coast anchorages — this is a better option in moderate E wind than Svaneke or Gudhjem. Increase to 100m in fresh E.

About This Anchorage

Nexø is Bornholm's main commercial port — the granite quarry output, food products, and import goods all pass through. The harbour has a dedicated yacht section within the commercial port basin, well-sheltered by the main breakwaters. The outer anchorage north of the port is in deeper water (4–8m) — ideal for yachts that found Svaneke or Gudhjem too shallow or exposed. The town of Nexø (population 4,000) has full provisioning, a museum covering the Bornholm quarrying industry, and the only 24-hour fuel dock on the island. The anchorage is the best staging point for the crossing to mainland Denmark or for bad weather refuge on the east coast.

Anchoring Rules

Anchoring fee
Free (anchoring); marina fee approx DKK 160/night
Permit required
No

Restrictions: Commercial harbour — VHF 16 before approaching port entrance; keep clear of commercial vessel movements; 24-hour operations in main basin; speed limit in harbour.

Hazards

  • !Commercial harbour traffic — monitor VHF 16 and AIS; large vessels manoeuvre in main basin
  • !Open to east and NE across Baltic
  • !Deeper anchorage (4–8m) — requires more scope
  • !Noise from commercial operations in harbour (24-hour port)
  • !Less scenic than other Bornholm harbours — primarily a functional staging stop

Skipper's Tips

  • The only 24-hour fuel dock on Bornholm — essential stop for fuel on the island circuit
  • Best staging point for the return crossing to mainland Denmark: 55nm to Ystad (Sweden), 140nm to Copenhagen
  • The Nexø Museum covers Bornholm's granite quarrying history — the island exported granite for the Copenhagen Rådhus (City Hall) paving
  • In easterly weather when Svaneke and Gudhjem are untenable — Nexø offers the best shelter on the east coast
  • Contact harbour on VHF 16 before entering — the commercial port is active 24 hours and the duty officer will direct you to the yacht basin
