Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

65m

65m for Katholm Vig in 2–4m. The Kattegat exposure from the east means this should only be used in settled westerly conditions. Monitor forecasts carefully — Kattegat can deteriorate rapidly.

Setting Your Anchor

  1. 1.Check eelgrass chart (DKSOS app or Navionics) — anchor only in central channel, away from fjord shore vegetation
  2. 2.Use 5:1 scope minimum — East Jutland fjords are almost tideless (0.2m tidal range); scope is about depth and holding
  3. 3.Remember: anchoring is tolerated for 1 night only in unoccupied natural anchorages — it is not a legal right in Denmark
  4. 4.Set your anchor alarm to 65m before sleeping — check bridge clearances if proceeding upstream

About This Anchorage

Katholm Vig is one of the most secluded and peaceful anchorages on the Djursland peninsula — a small bay backed by wooded shores with no harbour, no facilities, and very few visiting yachts. The estate of Katholm with its forest and farm occupies the hinterland. In westerly conditions the bay provides reasonable shelter. The Kattegat exposure means it is suitable only in settled fair-weather conditions. The feeling of isolation and the wooded backdrop make this a special overnight stop for sailors who prioritize tranquility over facilities.
