Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius
55m
55m for the well-sheltered Vejle Fjord anchorage in 2–5m mud. The forested hills provide excellent wind shelter from all directions. Reduce to 40m in calm conditions. Eelgrass along the fjord edges — stay in the central channel.
Setting Your Anchor
- 1.Check eelgrass chart (DKSOS app or Navionics) — anchor only in central channel, away from fjord shore vegetation
- 2.Use 5:1 scope minimum — East Jutland fjords are almost tideless (0.2m tidal range); scope is about depth and holding
- 3.Remember: anchoring is tolerated for 1 night only in unoccupied natural anchorages — it is not a legal right in Denmark
- 4.Set your anchor alarm to 55m before sleeping — check bridge clearances if proceeding upstream
About This Anchorage
Vejle Fjord is one of the most scenic of the East Jutland fjords — a long narrow arm of the Kattegat reaching 25km inland, flanked by steep beech-covered hillsides unique to this part of Jutland. The city of Vejle (population 55,000) at the fjord head offers excellent facilities. Vejle is famous for the LEGOLAND connection (Billund, 25km inland — easily reached by bicycle or bus) and the remarkable Iron Age bog body in the Vejle Museum (the Vejle Woman, found in 1835, exceptionally preserved). The fjord anchorage is excellent — deep mud, superb shelter, and beautiful surroundings.
