About This Anchorage

Alksnynė beach lies on one of the most unspoiled stretches of the Lithuanian Baltic coast, between the busy resort of Palanga to the south and the northern town of Šventoji. The coastline here is entirely undeveloped — a continuous line of white sand beach backed by natural dune forest, with no buildings visible from the water. This coastal sanctuary is rare on the densely visited Lithuanian shore, and the anchorage in 4–9m on sand gives a peaceful day stop in settled conditions far from the tourist infrastructure of Palanga. The beach is popular with Lithuanian campers and wild swimmers who access it through forest tracks, but from the sea it appears entirely empty. The amber-collecting tradition is strong here — after any westerly storm, the beach yields Baltic amber fragments of all sizes, from tiny chips to occasional larger pieces. Landing by dinghy on the sand beach is easy in calm conditions, and the forest behind the dunes offers walks through ancient alder and pine woodland. This anchorage is about distance from the crowds — the Baltic at its most elemental.
