About This Anchorage
Neptun and Olimp are twin purpose-built resorts developed during the communist era, notable for their extraordinary modernist architecture set among a network of artificial lakes, pine forests, and manicured gardens. These were Romania's most prestigious resorts during the Ceaușescu era — Neptun's presidential villa hosted numerous foreign dignitaries. The resort complex today retains its distinctive 1960s–70s architectural character: concrete modernist hotels, lakeside promenades, and the unusual combination of Black Sea beach, pine forest, and freshwater lakes within walking distance. For sailors, the coastal roadstead provides a fair-weather stop to access these unique resorts. The anchorage is exposed to NE and suitable only in settled summer conditions, but the resort complex is worth visiting — the juxtaposition of communist modernism, Romanian summer leisure culture, and the open Black Sea is unlike anything else in Europe.
