About This Anchorage
The anchorage off the barrier beach at the southern end of Lake Techirghiol offers a unique stop combining Black Sea sailing with proximity to one of Romania's most unusual natural features. Lake Techirghiol is a shallow hypersaline lagoon separated from the Black Sea by a narrow strip of dune beach — its dark sulphurous mud and mineral-rich waters have attracted health tourists since the late 19th century when the Belgian entrepreneur Carol Zossima first developed the therapeutic facilities. The lake's salinity is roughly twice that of the Black Sea, making it visibly darker and denser. The anchorage is fully exposed and only suitable as a calm-weather stop, but the landscape — the narrow sand barrier, the dark lake behind, and the open Black Sea — is striking and distinctive. The resort towns of Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud offer basic amenities within easy dinghy range.
