About This Anchorage

Nykøbing Sjælland is a small market town on the western coast of the Odsherred peninsula, with a well-equipped harbour and good provisioning. The town's position on the western Isefjord gives easy access from the Kattegat via the Isefjord outer approaches. The area is known as the 'Danish Riviera' — dramatic chalk cliffs at Nekselø and Røsnæs to the south, the rolling hills of Odsherred to the east, and the wide sandy beaches on the Kattegat coast. The Odsherred railway terminates here, making day trips to Copenhagen straightforward. The harbour serves as a staging point for the western Isefjord cruising area. Fresh local fish from the harbour market in season.

Skipper's Tips

  • The Odsherred peninsula is one of the least-visited parts of Zealand — rolling hills, chalk cliffs, and traditional villages make excellent cycling territory
  • The chalk cliffs at Røsnæs (10nm south by sea) are spectacular from the water — one of the few chalk headlands in Denmark
  • The Odsherred train (from Nykøbing Sj.) provides a direct connection to Copenhagen (2 hours) — a practical crew change or day trip option
  • Local flatfish (rødspætter) are particularly fresh here — ask at the harbour market
  • From Nykøbing Sj., the passage north to Hundested (12nm) along the Kattegat coast is straightforward in settled conditions
