About This Anchorage

Rørvig is one of the most charming and least-changed villages on the North Zealand coast — an enclave of summer houses, white-painted cottages, and a traditional harbour at the southern mouth of the Isefjord. The village has no cars on the peninsula (bicycles only), an excellent fish smokehouse, and a population of artists and writers who have summered here since the 19th century. Johannes Jørgensen, the Danish author, lived here. The anchorage at the fjord mouth is on clean sand and mud, sheltered from the prevailing westerlies. The seasonal ferry to Hundested (10-minute crossing) makes for a delightful excursion. The surrounding landscape — dune forest, sandy beaches, and the quiet lanes of Odsherred — is excellent for cycling.

Skipper's Tips

  • The Hundested–Rørvig ferry (10-minute crossing) is one of Denmark's most charming short journeys — take the dinghy across or pay as a foot passenger; the Knud Rasmussen Museum is on the other side
  • Rørvig Røgeri (smokehouse) opens at 10:00 — smoked eel is the speciality; the fishermen smoke overnight and sell fresh-from-the-smoke in the morning
  • The dune forest north of the village (Rørvig Skov) is a natural paradise — cycle or walk the forest tracks to the Kattegat beach (2km)
  • The village is bicycle-only on the peninsula — hire bikes at the harbour (seasonal rental) and explore the lanes of Odsherred
  • Rørvig is the most peaceful anchorage in the Copenhagen sailing area — the contrast with the busy Øresund and Copenhagen harbour is total
